AFS
Approves North Mexico Chapter
The American Foundry Society (AFS) board
of directors has formally approved the
creation of a new AFS chapter to be located
in North Mexico. The chapter will service
the northern Mexican states of Sonora,
Chihuahua, Coahuila, San Luis Potosi,
Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. The chapter
will begin with 40 members, and is expected
to grow rapidly.
The formal petition, signed by 31 leaders
of the metalcasting industry in northern
Mexico, was spearheaded by AFS board of
directors member Patricio Gil, CEO of
Blackhawk de Mexico, S.A. Instrumental
in organizing the new chapter, Gil will
continue to work as the liason between
the local Chapter and AFS Headquarters
in Schaumburg, Illinois.
“The North Mexico Chapter of AFS
has some of the most progressive, quality-minded
and productive metalcasting facilities
in the world as its founding members,”
said Jerry Call, AFS executive vice president.
“We are certainly proud to have
this chapter as the newest member of the
AFS family.”
“The concentration of the metalcasting
industry in Mexico basically resides in
the northern tier of states. We look forward
to the establishment of this newest Chapter,
as well as working with the companies
and individuals in the area to deliver
the best programs and services possible,”
said Leo Baran, AFS director of membership
services.
